Io utilizzo questo:

http://www.tildeslash.com/monit/

è piuttosto semplice, si può utilizzare via web, può monitorare varie cose
tipo anche l'utilizzo di CPU, spazio disco, PID file, porte e socket ecc.,
e mi faccio mandare gli SMS tramite apposita email (335....@tim.it
funziona bene con tim...).
