fatto automaticamente, escaricando l'ultimo cambio nella distribuzioni.
Só toma 5 minuti se lo face ogni giorno como io. Sono obsesivo, non
voglio waste time facendo esto. Il mio tempo é oro.

Scuzi, pero ho che spiegare en inglese, questo é molto importante!

Short answer:

No! you don't have to wait, you can do it now, it's stable enough.

Long answer:

Ok. You have to understand the philosophy of Debian. They are slow,
ultra-conservative (they are politically to the right of Mussolini),
they don't give a shit what you like, or what most young geeks like,
they are hard core linux fanatics. They are very stable. They don't care
what the latest program are, all they care about is that the distro
don't crash, that apt-get works perfectly, that people who deal with
servers do not have to worry about fixing anything, therefore, they got
the three different versions: Woody, Sarge, and Sid.

If you go to Gentoo, Slack and RH, you probably have the latest app
right off the bat, but you got to d/l the latest version every few
months. They use RPMS and Ports, different versions of apt-get (Emerge
and Urpmi, Apt-get rpms, or whatever) and most young users like to have
the latest.

Now, there is a misunderstanding about Woody and Sarge (Stable and
Testing) done on purpose by Debian. This is because they are obsesive
about crashes. IMHO, if you have a server or an ancient 486, use Woody
(do a minimal install, it comes Ext2 file system); for desktop use Sarge
(you get more newer apps, like Mozilla-Firebird) and more up to date in
the rest of the apps repository, but not the latest. Example: in Woody
and Sarge you will get Moz 1.0, but in Sarge, Firebird 0.6.1, same with
mc and the rest, in Sid you will get Moz 1.4 (you can use Ext3 or
ReiserFs) Both are STABLE.

I use Sid because I'm the way I am: reckless, I want to have the latest,
fly with the eagles, I actually enjoy getting in trouble.

But I am very careful, I follow the instructions to the letter at the
debian site, i maintain Sid up to date, and have never experienced any
crashes, any problems, with Sid, it gives me OOo 1.1, XFCE4, Gnome 2.4,
or whatever i want, or i go to apt-get.org and install programs from the
other crazies who can't wait for Sid or hang around in the IRC at #Debian.

I'm not afraid of re-installing, i've fucked up so many times, that i've
become an expert at installing, not because i'm smart but because of
exactly the opposite, the only thing I got going for myself is that i'm
not afraid. Capito?

So, go ahead, download, carry your tower to vodafone, update/upgrade, or
better yet, download Knoppix 3.3, you'll have KDE, fluxbox, icewm,
windowmaker, latest apps, etc, good way to start debian, and if you like
it, install it to the hdd. If you look at the /etc/sources.list you will
see a mixture of Woody, Sid, Sarge, extra-official repositories like
marillat.fr :)

If I were you, because you got dial-up and want only to try Debian, I
would stick with Knoppix. When it comes to installing it to the hdd,
I'll explain some stuff to you so you can have your italian keyboard,
language, 3 button mouse running, etc.

Sorry for the length of the reply, my wife is always complaining i'm too
quiet, except when it comes to LINUX! :))

Later,

Luigi
