Ma sei sicuro ? 2.4.18 ?
Sono passati _alcuni_ mesi dal rilascio di questo kernel.
Mdk fornisce un suo kernel derivato da 2.4.20-rc2 se non mi sbaglio!

Cmq, se puoi riprovare con quel kernel togliendo qualche modulo, 
per esclusione dovresti trovare il colpevole (sembrava relativo al 
floppy)
